Data-Driven Care: AL-AMAL integrates Clinical Audit initiative into Palliative Care Practices

Between June 8 and July 28, 2024, AL-AMAL’s palliative care working group participated in foundamental training on clinical audit for palliative care, reinforcing its commitment to continuity to quality, evidence-based care, marking a significant milestone in the development of this essential service in Rwanda. As the country’s pioneering provider in home-based palliative care, AL-AMAL continues to lead efforts in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with life-limiting conditions.

The training was facilitated by Dr. MIR Ahmad, Training Programme Director at Doctors Worldwide (DWW), with the support of Tharika Gunasekaran and Sayeed Ahmad. The sessions focused on equipping the team with the skills to systematically review and improve clinical practices by aligning them with international standards.

The objective of the clinical audit initiative is to ensure that accurate, standardized, and high-quality information is consistently documented and available for future use by healthcare professionals and researchers. By doing so, AL-AMAL aims to foster a culture of continuous quality improvement in the emerging field of palliative care in Rwanda.

“The team is committed to applying all recommendations from the audited patients’ files to improve the quality of service provided,” said Aisha, a member of the palliative care team.

Through this initiative, AL-AMAL not only reinforces its leadership in the national palliative care landscape but also sets a benchmark for evidence-based practice and accountability in the healthcare sector.
