On May 19, 2024, Dr. Diane Ndoli Andrea, a clinical oncologist at Rwanda Military Hospital, joined AL-AMAL’s multidisciplinary team during home visits to palliative care patients. Her participation provided valuable insights and fostered a collaborative spirit aimed at enhancing patient care.
Building on this collaboration, Dr. Diane conducted a comprehensive training session on January 5, 2025, focusing on pain management in palliative care. The workshop aimed to equip AL-AMAL’s team, particularly nurses and volunteers who are directly involved in patient care, with advanced knowledge and skills in administering and adjusting pain relief medications, including morphine.

“We’ve learned a lot about morphine, and from today, we are ready to prescribe it to our patients and adjust the dosage when necessary. This will improve the quality of service that we provide to our patients,” said Ramla, a nurse at AL-AMAL.
Dr. Diane commended the team’s existing practices, noting: “During this workshop, I found that most of the essential practices are already being implemented at AL-AMAL. I added just small details to improve the quality.”
This training underscores AL-AMAL’s commitment to continuous professional development and excellence in palliative care, ensuring that patients receive compassionate and effective pain management.
