INTRODUCTION
Al Amal has been supporting cross-cutting initiatives in order to share Islamic values since its establishment in 2012 The purpose is to convey to a non-Muslim audience an understanding of Islam culture, and contribution to community development and lead Rwandan peoples and the world in general to a better understanding and contribute to peace and harmony in our universe.
IFTAR Provision
During the holy month of Ramadan of Muslims are obliged to fast in order to draw closer to Allah, where the wealthy families are encouraged to share with the needy, but also due to the large number of needy families there are those who fast until the evening and they are deprived of food.
Al Amal, in collaboration with its partners shows the efforts being made to preserve and reflect on the lives of Muslims living in different parts of the country and to plan for the future of the Islam, especially in the period of covid-19 pandemic, where everyone was required to stay at home where it became more difficult because even the few who get were fed by chores when they left home. The economy has slowed down and the number of people who are in need is also high as most of their businesses have come to a standstill.
It is in this context that Al Amal is committed to helping poor Rwandan Muslims get Iftar through Al-Amal (IAD), has been doing similar activities every year since 2012 to reach out those families.
Qurbani
Qurbani means sacrifice. Every year during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal – a goat, sheep, cow or camel – to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, for the sake of God.
After the animal has been sacrificed, its meat is then distributed to those most in need.
Qurbani is highly recommended and obligatory for every Muslim who is financially able to do so. There are also Qurbani rules which dictate which animals can be sacrificed, the quality of the life it has led, its health status and guidelines on how the sacrifice must be carried out.
Every year Al Amal performs Qurbani to reach out the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities (Families who live on less than the minimum income for that particular country, Female-headed households, Families with disabled or elderly persons, Breastfeeding mothers, and Families with little or no access to the market) in Rwanda to enjoy Eid, as this is the only time many families eat meat in the entire year.
Masjids Rehabilitation
Throughout centuries, mosques were important centers for prayer and events – religious function; as well as places for education, sciences, medicine and philosophy – Educational function; and place for business agreements, funeral services and marriages – Societal and Legislative function. Nowadays, mosques include an even bigger array of functions, acting as community centers, hosting multifunctional spaces for the community to congregate and socialize after prayer. Thus, they have come to include functions such as libraries, museums, exhibitions, shops, multi-purpose rooms for lectures and debates, as well as dormitories, shelters and dining facilities for the poor and homeless.
The Annour Mosque from Nkoto in Kamonyi District needed to be reconstructed with functions that would transform it and make it the heart of the religious, social and cultural life of Nkoto community.
Historically, this mosque was dedicated with an educational role and was the main center for the study of Arabic, Qur’an, and Islamic laws.
Through the reconstruction of mosque roof was transformed so that rain water could flow easily, new ceiling, lighting, doors, windows were inserted
Through the reconstruction of the Annour Prayer Hall we increased its size on 130% and the construction of an office of Imaam.
